Site

  • Site located within walking distance of public transportation, commercial, and retail services.
  • Pedestrian and bicycle-friendly.
  • Surrounded by shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and a mile from the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.
Water

  • Landscaping will consist of drought tolerant, low demand native plantings with high efficiency drip irrigation.
  • Water use is greatly reduced using low-flow plumbing fixtures and water conserving toilets, as well as a recirculating domestic hot water loop.

Energy

  • Insulated envelope will include a weather and air resistive barrier system to minimize heat loss.
  • High performance fiberglass windows, Energy Star appliances, a central gas boiler in lieu of individual water heaters, and energy efficient elevators.
  • Mechanical systems will be commissioned to maximize performance, as well as comply with a Green power utility agreement.
Waste

  • At least 95% of construction waste will be diverted from the landfill by recycling or salvaging materials.
  • Residents and commercial users will have recycling facilities available and will be educated on waste management in a ‘sustainable operations’ program.
Materials

  • Recycled content materials include concrete, steel studs, metal panels, gypsum wallboard, carpets, countertops, walk-off mats, and railings.
  • Locally manufactured materials will include concrete, brick, stucco, metal panels, countertops, windows, doors and plants.
  • The building will also feature renewable materials such as bamboo flooring and recycled glass.

Indoor Air Quality

  • Low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) carpets, paints, sealants and adhesives
  • Formaldehyde-free trim, doors, and cabinets
